Hello dear Couture-readers!

It's been too long since I last wrote on this blog, so an apology is called for.

My excuse is that last year was not really as I planned it. I changed jobs twice in September and from the middle of September I have been unemployed. From November until now I have been in training to become a management assistant. Back to studying again! I'm actually really glad how things turned out, the fututre seems a little brighter than two months ago, so this blog deserves some more attention too.

And that's where you, the reader, come in. I would like to thank you for following me throughout the years and still following me, even during the quieter periods!
So a big THANK YOU for you, the reader! And a little late, I know, but a happy new year! May 2012 be great for you!

Now over to the core business of this blog: fashion!

New glasses and two days in the north of France

I recently went visiting my parents on their vacation. My boyfriend an I made to little citytrips: one to Lille and one to Valenciennes.
Wearing: Cos sweater, H&M shirt, Edc. by Esprit trousers, Timberland boots, Mexx bag and my new glasses from D&G. Do you like them?

Now on the two small citytrips we did:
* Lille: great city, has everything you need (Sephora, for example). They even have Hermès. I want to share these pictures from Hermès with you! Aren't they amazing?

My boyfriend had a sandwich at "La crêperie" (4, rue des débris St Etienne), but they also had delicious pancakes!

* Valenciennes: Lovely village, but a bit quiet. The best place to find something to eat there is around the great market. Me, the bf and my parents had dinner there at "L'escargot" (34 place d'Armes) = delicious food! Great service. I would advice it to everyone!

Whoops! I've been a bit of a bad blogger, since it was 10 days since my last post!
These pictures have thus been waiting for some time on my pc, having now new glasses!
When these pictures were taken my boyfriend and I went sales shopping in Antwerp, with me buying a Cos sweater (actually my first Cos purchase ever!). As we were in Antwerp we also saw an act of the Summer of Antwerp, namely the Aeroflorale II with their botanic expedition.

Fish Spa

This weekend I went with my boyfriend to Pairi Daiza near Ath. For those who don't live in Belgium, it's kind of a zoo, specialised in birds.
As we walked around I spotted a sign saying 'fish spa'. I really wanted to go in, because I read some reviews on the internet of people who did it and said that their feet were so soft afterwards.
In the beginning it tickled a bit and it felt a bit curious, but in the end you get used to the feeling of the little fish nibbling on your feet.
Would I do it again? Definitely! It really makes your feet very soft! I'm going to look up locations with a fish spa near my home!

The guide to The Hague

Some of you already know from my Facebook "Couture" page that I went to The Hague. I went there to watch the 'Dreigroschenoper' in 'Het Nationale Toneel'. But before that I had all day to discover The Hague and all the great places to eat and shop!

Food
* Café Leopold: We started the day with coffee and tea there. Must go place for Belgians, since it's dedicated to King Leopold. Not very cool, but a nice place to sit, relax and enjoy your drink!

* Luden: Me and my parents ate lunch there. They had salads, I had a panini. Simple, but very tasty food. Also very friendly staff!

* Het Kabinet: If you go to The Hague, I would recommend you eat there! It's not cheap but so yummy!! As a starter we had bread with garlicbutter, aioli and tuna mayonnaise. As main dish my dad ate entrecote, my mom the vegetarian pasta and I had delicious dover sole! Great service too!

* Cos: A very big store filled with clothes for him and her.

Event report: Kunstsuperette

Yesterday I went to the 5th edition of the Kunstsuperette. This event is organised to give new designers a chance to meet an audience.
I also went last year, but this year was more child-orientated. Still I saw some nice things for adults too!
* I love the clothes of La fille du deuxième! She won the competition "Toga 125", where designers had to come up with their view on the clothes that lawyers where in Belgium.
This pullover was made out of carpetwool, and can unfortunately not be remade. I like it so much!

Food
* Gosselin: A small bakery that makes amazing big raspberry macaroons. Try them out to taste a little bit of heaven!

* Ladurée: the best known macaroons of Paris. Try the vanilla macaroons, since they’re delicious. I found the other tastes a little disappointing... Ladurée also sells scented candles, I bought the brioche and strawberry smell: so good!

* Go to Mc Café instead of Starbucks. Mc Café has great tea flavours and according to the bf, better cofee. Also we received a lousy treatment at Starbucks!
* Bistrot Marguerite: I had a salad with goat cheese there that was very good. Also not too expensive.
→ 1, Place Hotel de Ville, 75004 Paris
* WORST FOOD WE ATE = DON’T GO HERE!!! Total disappointment! I wouldn’t give the steak my bf had there to a dog! It’s near Gare du Nord, so BEWARE!

Shopping
We did all the great shopping malls: Galleries Lafayette, Printemps, Le Bon Marché. Personally I loved the last two ones the most, because it’s a lot quieter over there; less touristic. Printemps also has a Ladurée bar.
* If you’re going to visit Louis Vuitton, do so in 22 avenue Montaigne, 75008 Paris. No waiting queues and very friendly staff. All the other great designers are also in this street: Fendi, Chanel, Dolce & Gabanna, ...
* I also visited Louboutin, and although I loved some shoes, I was also sure I would break my ankles on them ;-)
* Le it-bag du moment: Vanessa Bruno’s leather and sequined bag. Prices between 250 and 395€. I saw them everyday on the arms of fashionistas.

* My personal must-have were Marc by Marc Jacobs mouse flats, which (grrr) I couldn’t find in my size. So if you see them in Belgium in size 35/35.5 please tell me!

Some other advice
* Watch out for thieves! We had some encounters with them, but luckily we were smarter! When you find people walking too close, change your wallet to your front pocket (for boys!). If you’re wearing a backpack, put the zippers together with safety pins! This way it will cost them more time to open it, and it’s not worth the effort for them!
* The non-touristic areas of Paris are not so clean and there are a lot of homeless over there. If you don’t want such encounters, stay on the touristic paths!
* La Cimetière du Père-Lachaise: not only there are some famous people buried there (Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf,...), but it's also a nice place to just sit and relax.
* Last but not least: if you're brave and a true-blood fashionista go for heels. If you are -on the other hand- planning to do Paris on foot, be realistic and wear flats.

Unravel: Knitwear in fashion

As said previously on this blog, I was invited to the opening of "Unravel". It was very interesting to see how many designers actually choose to make knitwear. Before that night I knew that Sonia Rykiel was known as the queen of knitwear. Apart from that, I also associated knitwear with Missoni. This makes this exhibition is a real eye-opener. Knitwear in fashion includes a lot more than meets the eye.

Some time ago I was invited to the M.A.C Wonder Woman event. I had so much fun with my friend Charlotte, that I completely forgot to take pictures of the collection, test or buy anything. Whoops! But I still had fun, and the cupcakes (see Charlotte) and the drinks (see me) were great!
Two days later I decided to be a better blogger and I went to the store to buy the electric blue mascara. I LOVE it! It has a great brush and the colour is nice too. The colour is visible when light shines on your eyes, and I actually like it that it doesn't attract all the attention.
But now I am again a bit of a bad blogger since I don't have pictures of me wearing the mascara, so I'm affraid you will have to take me on my word!

Bright colours

Wearing Miners's yellow and green on the eyes and OPI's "Brights Powder" (orange) and "Black Shatter".

Now that spring is slowly approaching, I want to bring more bright colours into my life. By buying flowers, for example, but also by using it in my make-up. Since this summer will be dominated by bright colours I bought orange nail polish. The "Bright powder" by OPI is excellent, one coat already looks fine!
I was not so convinced by OPI's "Black Shatter". It looked great on the Katy Perry promo pictures and on the nails of other bloggers, but al you can see on my pictures, it doesn't look too good.
The problem is that in order to create the shattering effect, the polish needs to dry very fast. That means that the "Black Shatter" should be applied in one straight line, with almosty no possibility of correcting. So maybe I need a little bit more practice, but on the other hand I am not really convinced anymore about the "cool" effect...
What do you think?

This weekend two major events with lots of fashion took place: the Grammy Awards and the BAFTA's. Here are my personal favourites.
Ps: Am I the only one who looked at Miley Cyrus and thought that she is turning into a younger Jennifer Anniston?
First the Grammy Awards:
Kelly Osbourne in Tadashi Shoji. Kelly has undergone such a make-over in so little time. Very impressive!

Now for the BAFTA's:
Emma Watson in Valentino.I still think that since Emma cut her hair off, she looks so much better. She also seems to make better decisions style-wise.

Hailee Steinfeld in Miu Miu. Very young, very stylish!

I believe we all (in a certain way) crave for luxury. Some of us crave for the luxury of more time, other for special clothes. Since I’m a fashion blogger, I guess it’s not so hard to define which my craving is.
My latest luxury splurge was my Céline box bag. While still being incredibly thrilled to own it, I want to talk about another luxury aspect: the shopping experience.
I still remember going to Kiehls in Antwerp and how happy I was by all the free samples I got. After I joined their mailing list, I received a handwritten (!!!) letter from them thanking for being their customer. I was stunned, but also very charmed.
The service at Houben, where I bought my Céline was also great. The staff only touched the bags with gloves on. This weekend I received a card from them, regarding the new collections. Again my address was handwritten.
I know that these are little tricks to make you visit them again and spend/splurge again, but on the other hand it makes you feel very special.
Nowadays even the chains like H&M have discovered this technique and are doing a lot to give the shoppers a better service. They are very smart to do so, because when shoppers feel valued and cherished, they simply buy more. Would you go back to a place, where the staff treats you terribly? Of course you wouldn’t.
Even if the chains can never compete with boutiques, they are trying to optimize their service in order to lure more customers. Who can blame them for doing so?

2010 was a very good year for me fashionwise. Not in the sense that I didn't make some fashion mistakes, because I know I did. It was amazing, because I experienced so many things, because of and thanks to this blog.
Here are some pictures worth resharing!

I met Scott Shuman(The Sartorialist), who is an amazing person, very friendly and down to earth. Being in Maasmechelen at the book signing, I also had the chance to meet two fellow bloggers: Tiffany (http://tiffany-shark-attack.blogspot.com/) and Stèv Romani-Soccoro (monsieurmademoiselle.blogspot.com). It was also great to meet you!

I saw a lot of exhibits this year, two in the Momu: one about the colour black in fashion and one about milliner Stephen Jones. But the exhibit I loved the most was in Rotterdam: "Fashion Ahoy", where this fabulous Chanel dress was shown.

2010 was also the year of my first fashion show by Jan Welvaert! I loved it!

I also met some great and creative people, such as Harald Ligtvoet, who makes wonderful clothes and bakes amazing cakes (to be ordered on this site: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=60681689110)!

Another meeting I wont forget was with Maarten Vande Wiele, who made the amzing comics 'I love Paris' and 'I hate Paris'. He mixes "Sex and the City" with "Dynasty". Sounds great huh? As promised I'm going to show you some pictures of my visit to "Fashion Ahoy" in Rotterdam.
As you can hear in the part "Ahoy', it's an exhibit about maritime fashion.
I did love this exhibit and I was really sad there was no book to accompany it. Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I did!! For those who want to visit it, you can still see it in "Het Maritiem Museum" in Rotterdam until March 13th. It's a must-visit!!!

Jean Paul Gaultier. My first thought when I saw it, was "I have seen this one before. When I was back at home I checked it, and I did already see it at "Ultramegalore" in Hasselt, since it was worn on the catwalk by Belgian supermodel Hannelore Knuts.

Shopping night: "Flair Extraordinaire"

First of all I want to apologize for the lack of updates recently. I worked a lot and went to Rotterdam with my boyfriend. More about Rotterdam in later posts.

Now I would like to introduce you to "Flair Extraordinaire", a jewel brand.
I was invited to their shopping night yesterday.
The woman behind "Flair Extraordinaire" is Kaat Scheerlinck. She always bought her jewels online until she thought she could create them as well. The result of this is her lovely brand.
I was really amazed by the jewels: they're pretty, you have lifetime warranty on them and they're not expensive.
Now I will show you some pictures so you can see for yourself:

These hat-chocolates looked great, but were too expensive (around 20€ for 4 chocolates...!!!!)

I did love this exhibition as the hats were so amazing, but I didn't like the presentation, way too messy. For example hat 1 could be placed next to hat 12 and beside that one hat 5, ... I like it more the logical way, without having to look too much in the booklet and the numbers placed next to the hats.

Tested: Lush's "Big Blue"

This ballistic contains lemon, lavender and - as you can see on the pictures - seaweed. In the beginning it was quite fun to have the seaweed floating around in the bath, but in the end it's bothering because it can finally end up clogging the drains...
"Big Blue" is nice, but it didn't do anything special to my skin. In fact it hasn't even left a little greasy film on my skin.
I have to be honest: I'm not such a big fan of Lush's ballistics and this one also hasn't convinced to become a fan of them.
I can, on the other hand, advise everyone to use the bubble bars, and to be more specific "The Comforter". I hope you will love it as much as I do!

Presentation Wolles

First of all some good news: I have a job at H&M! So glad!!!

I went to the presentation of Wolles this weekend. Wolles is the collection Elles De Koe created. The Belgians will probably remember Elles, who became second in the Tv-show 'De Designers', the flemish version of 'Project Runway'.
I loved that it was not only the opening of the shop, but also a real presentation.
Here are some pictures. Enjoy!

The clothes were shown on racks with sheep's head on them. Then the girl turned on the razors and the sheepskin was removed. And so they kept removing layers until only the clothes remained.

I just loved this plaid, it's made from sweaters.

Review: L'oreal Studio Secrets: Smoothing Resurfacing Primer

This primer is quite expensive: it costed 18€. It was also not so easy to open,as you can see in the second picture, where the L'oreal-logo was ripped in two to open it.
In the advertisement it reads that it should reduce visibility of the pores. In reality it doesn't do that.
Then what does this primer actually do? It's really smoothing, and makes it so much easier to apply your foundation. This way you have to use less foundation.
Still, I don't think I will ever buy it again, since it's expensive and doesn't live up to its promise.

My boyfriend bought me 'The September Issue' and ... a wrap dress from (yes, that's right) Diane von Furstenberg. Normally they don't go into sale, but since they were the last ones from that range, we got one at 50%

Vitrine In Antwerp

A few weekends ago I did the Vitrine tour in Antwerp. Designers get the chance with this project to show their work/ideas to everyone, since the tour is for free. I didn't do the whole tour, since I was actually really disappointed in this project. Some people were still working on their project, while the tour was already opened (I'm sure this was no part of their concept, like a work in progress), several projections/videos weren't working (like Tim van Steenbergen's projection). The tour was overall also too long (2.5 to 3 hours!!!). Here are pictures of the things I did see and liked a lot.
These pictures were made by Flore Zoé, a fashion photographer. The series are called 'Art meets fashion'.

This ring is by Marko Galovic. I loved the fish swimming around it.

The food is work by Stephan Schneider. His idea is equaling slow fashion to slow cooking. The designer is like a masterchef.

Diane von Furstenberg scarfs

Normally I would have allowed myself only one, but I really couldn't choose between these two beauties so I took them both home. Judith: Just one, but it's a very big, four door closet. I even have space in there to keep the table cloths and linnen of our house :-)

Judith: 22 pairs of shoes, not so bad, is it?

Maxie also asked if I had brothers/sisters/pets.
Judith: I don't have brothers, sisters nor pets, but we do have a cat that likes our garden, we named him Atilla, because he's quite agressive to other cats.

Knk asked how many time I spend on this blog on daily basis and how I attract followers. Which word you will use repeatedly ?
Judith: I think I spend daily an hour on this blog, reading the reactions, trying to reply and reading my favourite blogs. I try to attract new followers by visiting other people's blogs. The word I use all the time is 'ja seg', something like 'come on' :-)

Judith: Definitely a job in the fashion world, working for a magazine or as a stulist. I keep on dreaming ;-)

Thavasa: As a fashionista like you, what is your fashion faux pas?? Any style you dislike?!
Judith: The fashion faux pas question is a hard one. Hmm, sometimes when I am home just by myself I walk around in outfits I don't want to be found dead in, but if that's a fashion faux pas or just laziness???
I really don't like harem pants for me, but other people can look great in them!

Judith: When I did ask him, he said it was ok ;-) Yeah the boyfriend is very enthusiastic, I know. Fashion is just not his cup of tea.

Judith: Now I am saving, but I think I spend 50€ monthly on fashion. My closet is quite full, so I'm not really buying any new items. When I buy something designer (my last designer buys were all outlet) I spend more off course.

The weekend I went to see Jan Welvaert's fashion show (see previous posts), there were two fashion markets in Ghent. I went to both of them.
First I went to the MM Modemarkt (Fashion market), organised by Stof-e-ring. I fell in love with these gorgeous jewels by Danielle Vroemen. Aren't these bracelets to die for? Sadly, I didn't have enough cash with me to buy one...

Fashion disappointments

Fashion can be great, but it can also disappoint. My latest fashion disappointments were the exhibition 'Ultramegalore' and the movie 'Sex and the City 2'.
I will start with the movie. Most of the outfits were exciting and gorgeous, but there is something with Carrie's breasts. Most of the time her breasts were pushed into an apple form, but really I was scared that they would fall out. I was like 'Carrie is 40, she doesn't have to dress as a granny, but a little cover-up would be nice'. Some outfits were just ridiculous, like the ones they go on a camel ride with. And what is it with wearing high heels all the time: even in the desert they're wearing them. Carrie is in one scene wearing a short dress with high heels while being at home with Big. Come on, which woman would do that in real life?
Now for the story: so weak... Most of the good jokes are in the trailers or the previews. The movie is also too long and some scenes are really repetitive, like the one about the 'gay wedding'.
But enough about my disliking this movie, how did you guys like this movie?

This is the outfit I wore to see the movie: Jumper, Shirt and Jacket are H&M, Trousers are Cheap Monday, Vintage necklace and Stella McCartney bag.

Because of a special action my boyfriend and I got to visit this exhibition for free. When asking if I could take pictures a 'no' was the answer I got. Everyone around me was taking pictures and filming though. No guards came to tell them it wasn't ok. These pictures come from a Belgian Fashionblog therefore, because I was stupid enough to stick to the rules. The exhibition was about Hannelore Knuts, a Belgian supermodel. She also designed a great bag for Delvaux. I expected to see beautiful clothes (I did), a lot of art (not so much) and an interesting story (nothing). This exhibtion was about Hannelore Knuts, but there was also a lot of ego-tripping. I was stunned by her outfits and her work, but after all I was very pleased this exhibition was for free. That says it all, doesn't it?

My nails were polished with IsaDora (118, Sparkling Candy) and embellished with nailstickers by Essence. The stickers are really easy to apply. The removal was far more difficult, since you can't remove them with nail polish remover. You have to scratch it off...

Whereas I would recommend the nail stickers, I would want to warn people for Essence's eyeliner. This liner works with a brush, which for untrained hands as mine creates a big mess (I really couldn't make a thin line). What is even worse about this product, is that when this liner comes in contact with your eyeball it irritates the eye.

Stof-e-ring: 4th biennial fashion and textile. Part 2

This first work is by Trui Demarcke, it's called "Los Mariales". The folds in the book are references to the collar and white cap from Margareta from Austria.

This is the work of fashion students in their second year. The first is "Madame de Pompadour" by Julie Van den Berghe. The second is "Charles Darwin" by Evelyne Broothaerts. The third work was made by Hannah Jacobs and is called "Tambour". The fourth work is "Athena" by Elisabeth Claes.

Unfortunately I didn't write the names of these works and their creators, but I really liked them.

These hat-installation is called "Day and night" and is made by Sjapoo (wordplay with the French word 'Chapeau').

Stof-e-ring: 4th biennial fashion and textile. Part 1

Every two years an exhibition about fashion and textile is launched in Ghent. The exhibited work is made by established artists, but also by fashion students as a project. This weekend the exhibition ends with a fashion-market and fashion show (I'll be going to both, so you can expect a report about both of them). The exhibition is a tour on four locations: two musea, a church and a bank. Stof-e-ring ends the 30th of may. The tour costs 5€.

I admired this work by Pieter Coene, called “Requiem”. The dresses were inspired by the tapestry, portraying the Gods Apollo, Diana, Mars, Minerva and Venus, in the room. I photographed my favourite dresses.

I loved these “Texture dresses” made by Syntra students:

They were really well made and would look great on the red carpet.
Syntra is a school that offers practically-oriented colleges.

The following work “Te(ks)tures marching on” is by Jan Welvaert. It shows children costumes with a reference to blue china porcelain.

Lush life: Soap review + Lookbook.nu

I use Ice Blue at my boyfriend's house. I really like the soft smell of this soap. I also believe that it makes my skin softer.
Lush's description of this great soap: "The intense and tingly peppermint one. Peppermint has this amazing quality of making you feel cool when you're hot and warm when you're cold. When you're in a warm shower, rub Ice Blue soap on your body and it gives you a refreshing, tingly feeling all over. Peppermint has been used for thousands of years to help the skin stay soft and the mind stay focused. The word 'mente' means thought, because it is said to help concentration and inspiration. Use Ice Blue and be cool."

I got Demon in the Dark for free, because I always bring my own Lush bag when shopping at Lush (everytime you get a stamp, if you have five stamps, you get a piece of the soap of your choice for free).
I love the fresh smell. When going home, I kept getting it out the bag and smelling it. This is how it's described by Lush: "It's not really a demon, it's a bit of a dark angel: dark green, wrapped in a layer of black wax, which you peel off before you use or you won't get clean. It's very green because we make it with fresh mint and antioxidant apple juice; we perfume it with invigorating peppermint, stimulating spearmint and warming clove bud. Let it unleash the power within you!"

If you're going to Lush and think about buying soap, you should definitely give these two a try!!

Review: Liberty of London and M.A.C: Blue India nail polish

First of all, I you use this nail polish, you will need two layers of it to look neat. It's quite easy to apply, but I'm not really convinced about this nail polish. Whan I saw it on the M.A.C site, I wanted it immediately, because the colour looked so great. When I tried it on at home I wasn't too sure anymore about the colour. I asked people how they perceived the colour and I got following answers: green, gray, ow and somebody also saw blue in it. If a nail polish is called "Blue India" I believe it should also look blue!

What do you think about it?

Fashion Farm: first edition. Meet the new designers!

Last weekend I went to Antwerp to visit Fashion Farm, where we were introduced to new designers. Here are some of the designers that I liked

I bought this jacket from Harald Ligtvoet. It costed 50€, which is a real bargain, if you consider it was handmade. The collection he presented was gorgeous. But what I really liked about him, was that he also presented a cheaper collection, where I found this jacket. I also received a set of postcards featuring his collection with the jacket. These pictures show my jacket, a detail from the back, the set of postcards and me and Harald Ligtvoet.

The jewels in bottles were from AA blank LABEL. The pun of bottles and AA was meant to be. I really like the fact that you can wears the jewelry or just use it as decoration in your room.

This jacket was from "reaKtion by Andrea Kränzlin". I loved it, but it was a bit too expensive for me...
